‘Sarawak Cultural Village’ – known as ‘The Living Museum’, traditional dwellings of the native communities and cultural performances. ‘Padawan’ – see the ‘Annah Rais Longhouse’- experience the traditional lifestyle of the local folk, watch cultural performances, try your hand at playing the musical instruments, enjoy bamboo rafting through the tropical rainforest, guided jungle trekking.
Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre – a centre that rehabilitates semi-wild orangutans that are injured or orphaned and are re-introduced to the jungles, feeding sessions.
Bako National Park – The oldest national park in Sarawak, variety of wildlife, a coastline covered with white sand beaches with limestone cliffs, swamp forests, see the rare proboscis monkeys only found in Borneo.
Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) – 3 Nights: Known for its beaches, Kota Kinabalu City Mosque. Sabah – gateway to Kinabalu National Park, home of the 4,095 metres high – Mount Kinbalu, ‘Mari Mari Cultural Village’ – activities like blowpipe demonstrations, fire making, bamboo cooking and native dancing, KK handicraft market – buy pareos, sarongs, beads, famous Sabah pearls and bags.
Excursions from Sabah –
Tunku Abdul Rahman Park – 20 minutes by speed boat from Kota Kinabalu, snorkelling, diving and under water photography, see the aquatic life and colourful corals. Turtle Islands – 1 Night: From Kota Kinabalu a 45 minutes flight to Sandakan, then a 1 hour boat ride to Turtle Islands Park, see the endangered green and hawksbill turtles.
Sandakan – 1 Night: Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre – rehabilitation of orangutans, see these primates up close in their natural habitat, young orphaned orangutans being fed by rangers, Kinabatangan River Cruise, see the Proboscis monkeys.
