Bandavgarh the most popular National Park in India is located in the Vindhya Hills, of the Umaria district in Madhya Pradesh. Declared as a National Park in 1968, it is spread across 105 sq ms. It was the hunting grounds of the Maharajas of Rewa. It was declared a Tiger Reserve in 1993 under the Project Tiger. The park is open from mid October till June and then closed for monsoons. It has a large biodiversity and the highest density of tiger population in India. The park has 3 zones – Tala, Magdi & Bamera out of which the Tala zone attracts major number of tourists. The park has mixed vegetation of tall grasslands to thick Sal forests and lots of varieties of animals and birds. Open jeep safaris are allowed with naturalist at fixed timings. There are more than 22 species of mammals and more than 250 species of birds. See Royal Bengal Tigers, Asiatic jackals, Bengal fox, sloth bear, striped hyenas, spotted deer, sambars etc.
